Project Manager and Curator at Shackleton

Rachel Halliburton has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Rachel started their career as a Features Writer at The Independent from 1997 to 2000. Rachel then worked as a Theatre Columnist and Critic at The Spectator, Evening Standard, Independent, and Time Out from 2000 to 2007, where they conducted interviews and wrote reviews. During this time, they also served as a Judge on The Perrier Awards Panel in 2001 and as a Co-writer, Presenter, and Commentator for a program on BBC Radio 3 in 2003.

From 2007 to 2015, Halliburton worked as a Content Editor at Hurst Publishers, editing political non-fiction books and other publications. Following this, they worked as a Writer at Large from 2012 to 2017, conducting interviews with notable figures and writing for publications such as the FT, the Spectator, and Prospect. During this period, they also balanced journalism with writing their first novel, "The Optickal Illusion."

In 2019, Halliburton became an Editor at Avaunt Magazine, where they worked on documenting extraordinary stories outside mainstream journalism. Rachel then joined Shackleton in 2020 as a Project Manager and Curator, organizing the online festival Antarctica Now and setting up the Shackleton Medal for the Protection of the Polar Regions.

Throughout their career, Halliburton has demonstrated a passion for editing, writing, interviewing, and exploring various subjects including politics, culture, and foreign affairs. Rachel has also made appearances on Sky News and the BBC World Service as a cultural commentator.

Rachel Halliburton attended Francis Holland from 1982 to 1988. Rachel later pursued a degree in Classics and English at the University of Cambridge from 1989 to 1993.
