Andrew Winters

Director, Delivery at Sidewalk Labs

Andrew is the Head of Development Services at Sidewalk Labs.

Andrew has spent his career planning and building complex projects in urban environments, with a focus on public space, innovative architecture, and sustainability. Prior to joining Sidewalk, Andrew served as Director of Capital Projects and Planning for Cornell Tech, where he oversaw the planning, design and construction of the new campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City. Conceived as a laboratory for tech education, the campus was built in a rapid timeframe and includes award-winning architecture, extensive on-site energy generation and the world’s first high rise residential Passive House building.

Prior to Cornell, Andrew was the founding director of the Mayor’s Office of Capital Project Development, an office created during the Bloomberg Administration to oversee the design and construction of several high priority projects. Completed projects include the High Line, Whitney Museum, East River Waterfront, BAM Cultural District, Hunters Point South, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Bushwick Inlet Park and numerous others. Andrew also worked on regional transportation and development projects, including Penn Station renovations, #7 subway extension, Javits Center expansion, and redevelopment of the World Trade Center.

Earlier in his career, Andrew was Vice President and Director of the Department of Planning, Design, and Development at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the joint city-state agency created to oversee the planning for rebuilding Lower Manhattan following the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. He was also Director of Planning for NYC2012, the bid committee working to bring the 2012 Olympic Games to New York City.

Andrew studied archaeology and ancient history at Wesleyan University, where he developed a passion for ancient cities. He holds a graduate degree in architecture from Yale University, where he developed an equally strong passion for modern cities.
