Arup Malakar

Arup Malakar is a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in leading data and machine learning initiatives. Currently serving as a Software Engineer at Sierra since October 2024, Arup previously held the position of Principal Engineer at Lyft from January 2017 to October 2024, where leadership and architectural responsibilities for a large Data & ML organization were undertaken, achieving significant advancements in the data platform. Prior experience includes roles as a Principal Software Engineer & Tech Lead at Ooyala, focusing on end-to-end ingestion pipelines, and various technical positions at Yahoo! Inc., where contributions to the Hadoop platform and feed processing systems were made. Arup began a career with research and internship experiences that include developing an XMPP plugin for a messaging system and a robot control application, supported by a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.
