Maninder Heer

Data Scientist at Siilo

Maninder Heer has worked as a Data Scientist at Siilo since 2022 and as a Researcher PhD Candidate at Newcastle University since 2017. During their time at Newcastle University, Heer developed a method based on random-walks to integrate 3D genomic and gene expression data, developed a semi-supervised graph learning approach to predict the location of enhancers, discovered a previously unknown feature of the 3D genome architecture that was shown to be predictive of known enhancers, and identified a novel structural mutation from clinical sequencing data to diagnose a patient suffering from suspected GATA2 haploinsufficiency.

Maninder Heer obtained their Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Medical Genetics from Swansea University between 2013 and 2016. Maninder then went on to earn their Master of Research in Systems Biology from Newcastle University in 2016-2017. Heer concluded their educational journey with a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Computational Biology from Newcastle University, which was funded by the EPSRC from 2017-2021.
