Job Details

Slack replaces email inside of companies to make peoples working lives simpler, more pleasant and more productive. Businesses and teams of every type and size depend on Slack to drive alignment, improve collaboration, get more from their software tools and create a permanent knowledge base. We care deeply about how our customers relate to our brand and our product.

This is a moment of transformational opportunity for Slack—so this is not your standard corporate communications role. You’ll lead our storytelling and thought leadership around the future of work; articulate Slack’s values and impact through our industry-leading CSR work; and promote Slack’s corporate reputation through strategic media engagement around critical issues and policies.

The Corporate Communications Director is critical to our success. You will lead our corporate communications function and team, and work closely with our CEO and C-Suite executive team. You will design and steer communications campaigns in support of our business objectives by ensuring that journalists and other key audiences understand why Slack is transformative. You are a master storyteller, savvy strategist and experienced leader who will help identify how, when and which audiences to engage. We seek a creative and driven self-starter who inspires confidence!

What you will be doing

  • Articulate the Slack story strategically and proactively to show the world who we are – and our role in defining the future of work – while also setting a storytelling drumbeat that captivates audiences
  • Support Slack’s strategic business objectives by defining and executing a best-in-class corporate communications strategy, including programs that elevate key thought leadership and CSR initiatives, such as: Future Forum, a research consortium launched by Slack to help companies thrive in the new digital-first world of work; and Slack for Good, which aims to increase the number of historically underrepresented individuals in the technology space
  • Build a roadmap for evangelizing the Slack company narrative, and use that story as a major driver and differentiator for the business
  • Effectively counteract and overcome misinformation within the market, as well as responding to reputational challenges as they arise
  • Directly interact and establish relationships with journalists, media outlets, industry peers, and other external stakeholders to drive thought-leadership and brand awareness
  • Develop cross-functional partnerships with the extended team across C-Suite, Marketing, Legal, HR, Finance and other key partners within Salesforce
  • Lead agency teams, ensuring they deliver on core objectives

What you should have

  • Strong media relations skills and a passion for PR (10-12+ years experience); agency/in-house technology communications preferred
  • Demonstrated experience designing integrated communications campaigns and managing high-stakes media engagements
  • Significant experience – and a track record of success – operating in competitive environments
  • Impeccable writing skills
  • Strong executive presence; able to hold a “seat at the table” alongside other areas of the business
  • Confident self-starter and problem-solver; enjoys building direction and consensus amid ambiguity
  • Creative, thoughtful and passionate about storytelling
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Comfortable in fast-paced environments and calm under pressure, with exceptional judgment
  • Collaborative and kind; thrives building relationships and working cross-functionally
  • Open and effective communicator; someone who is not afraid to offer a new idea or challenge an existing one to help advance Slack’s mission
  • Skilled at prioritizing, setting expectations and learning from results
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to balance multiple projects at once and resilient to change
  • Curious, humble and hungry for an exciting opportunity; eager to learn, roll up your sleeves and dig in!
  • Passionate about Slack and promoting a more flexible, inclusive and connected way of working
