Ruth Hanniffy

Ruth Hanniffy is a seasoned professional in biodiversity and wildlife conservation with extensive experience in various roles. Currently serving as a Biodiversity Officer at Sligo County Council since June 2023, Ruth has previously worked as a Species Conservation Officer for Vincent Wildlife Trust from 2015 to 2023, focusing on bat and carnivore programs in Ireland. Ruth also held the position of Fisheries Assistant at Inland Fisheries Ireland, contributing to monitoring fish populations under the EU Water Framework Directive in 2014. Earlier, Ruth worked as a Biodiversity Officer for the Environment Agency from 2005 to 2013, leading river restoration projects. Additionally, Ruth runs a freelance photography business, Ruth Hanniffy Photography, specializing in wildlife and landscape photography since 2010. Ruth holds an M.Sc. in Wildlife Management & Conservation from the University of Reading and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Galway.
