Rafael Sande

Rafael Sande has extensive work experience in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. From November 2009 to July 2012, they worked as an Associate Scientist at DSM Nutritional Products, where they focused on LC and LC-MS method development, quantitative analysis of Vitamins in biological liquids, analysis of biotechnological fermentation products, and characterization of intracellular metabolites in microorganisms using absolute quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis.

In July 2012, Sande joined Solvias as a Scientist Mass Spectrometry, Deputy Team Leader. Rafael held this position until June 2017, during which they contributed to the development and implementation of mass spectrometry techniques.

In July 2017, Sande was promoted to the role of Head of Large Molecules Bio-Mass Spectrometry Team (Biopharmaceuticals) at Solvias. In this role, they led a team responsible for the characterization of large molecules in biopharmaceuticals, utilizing bio-mass spectrometry techniques. Rafael held this position until March 2022.

Currently, Sande serves as the Head of Operations Characterization, Large Molecules and ATMP Services at Solvias. Rafael leads four operations teams, comprising six direct reports and up to 60 indirect reports. Rafael'sfocus is on biologics and Cell-/Gene therapy products characterization services, providing comprehensive analytical solutions for phase appropriate characterization in pre-clinical and clinical phases of drug development.

Rafael Sande obtained their Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences with a focus on Analytical Chemistry from the University of Applied Sciences northwestern Switzerland. Rafael completed this degree between the years 2007 and 2009. Later, they pursued their Master of Sciences in Life Sciences, also specializing in Analytical Chemistry, at the University of Applied Sciences northwestern Switzerland from 2009 to 2012.
