Christian Costa has had a successful career in the mining industry, working for several companies in various leadership positions. Christian began their career in 1996 at Billiton Metais S.A., where they served as an Assistant Treasurer, managing daily treasury operations. During their time there, they negotiated with local banks to increase credit limits and implemented senior management treasury reports.

Costa then joined Billiton Finance B.V. in The Hague in 1999 as an Assistant Risk Manager. In this role, they consolidated worldwide financial risks information and played a key role in negotiating a credit facility for the acquisition of Rio Algom assets. Christian also developed a global financial model and toured major operations to obtain adherence to the new financial tool, enabling the company to obtain a credit rating.

In 2002, Costa returned to Rio de Janeiro to work as a Financial Planning Superintendent at BHP Billiton Metais S.A. Christian provided financial planning expertise and contributed to the company's strategic goals.

Costa continued their career at BHP Billiton Metais S.A. in 2003 as a Project Coordinator, responsible for coordinating and managing projects. Christian then joined Du Pont in Delaware in 2004 as a Finance Leadership Development Intern, where they gained valuable experience in finance leadership.

In 2005, Costa began working at BHP, where they held various roles including Senior Business Analyst, Manager of Business Evaluation, and Group Manager of Performance and Evaluations. In these roles, they provided financial analysis, investment evaluation, and business planning for the Stainless Steel Materials division.

In 2009, Costa became the Vice President Finance of Nickel West, responsible for finance, energy management, and supply functions. Christian also oversaw business services and land access and ensured effective governance and internal control environments.

From 2010 to 2013, Costa served as the Vice President Finance of Cerro Matoso S.A., leading a multidisciplinary team and providing financial and governance stewardship over BHP Billiton's Nickel assets in South America.

Finally, from 2013 to 2015, Costa held the position of Head of Brazil Joint Ventures at BHP, overseeing the company's investments in Aluminium Manganese and Nickel businesses in Brazil. Christian also represented BHP's interests in industry associations and engaged with the Brazilian government.

In 2015, Costa joined South32 as the Vice President Brazil Alumina and Aluminium, where they are responsible for the company's operations and engagements in Brazil. Christian serves as the head of country and legal representative, as well as a board member for various industry associations and organizations.

Christian Costa has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, completed from 1990 to 1996. Christian also holds a Post Graduation degree in Financial Management from FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas, completed from 1997 to 1998. Christian later pursued an MBA in General Management from Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, completed from 2003 to 2005. Most recently, in 2018, they earned a certificate in Governance and Directorship from INSEAD.
