M. Cecil Smith

M Cecil Smith is an experienced educator and administrator with a prominent career in higher education. Currently serving as a Professor at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, M Cecil Smith has previously held the position of Dean of the School of Education at the same institution. Prior roles include Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Education at West Virginia University from July 2013 to June 2020, where responsibilities encompassed leading the College Research Office and faculty development programs. M Cecil Smith's academic career began at Northern Illinois University, progressing from Assistant Professor to Full Professor over 25 years. M Cecil Smith holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from The University of Kansas, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Secondary Education from Wichita State University.
