Matt Beran has extensive work experience in the fields of law, national security and military operations. Matt started his career in 1995 as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, holding various roles including Auxiliaries Officer and Weapons Officer. The Navy then sent Matt to law school and he became a Navy Judge Advocate. Matt served in positions such as Command Judge Advocate, Staff Judge Advocate, Strike Group Judge Advocate, Associate Legal Counsel, Executive Officer and Division Director. Following retirement in the summer of 2023 from active duty at the rank of Captain, he joined Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. as National Security Lead Counsel.

Matt Beran completed his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in History at the United States Naval Academy from 1991 to 1995. From 1995 to 1996, he earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in American History (United States) at the University of Maryland at College Park. Later, between 1999 and 2002, he attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Finally, from 2009 to 2010, he earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in International and Operational Law at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School (U.S. Army JAG School).
