Matthew Van Echo has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a Senior Military Operations Analyst at Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. In the past, they served in various positions in the United States Marine Corps, including being an Operational Planning Course Director and a Lieutenant Colonel. Matthew also worked at the US Marine Corps Headquarters as the Deputy Strategy Branch Head and was a Recruiting Station Commander at Marine Corps Recruiting. Prior to that, they held roles such as Division Staff Secretary at the 2d Marine Division and a Rifle Company Commander at 2d Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. Matthew received honors upon graduating from The Expeditionary Warfare School and The Basic School, where they trained and mentored Marine officers. Matthew'scareer in the Marine Corps began as a Lieutenant at 2d Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment.

Matthew Van Echo completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation at the United States Merchant Marine Academy from 1996 to 2000. In June 2000, they obtained a certification as a Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage All Oceans from the U.S. Coast Guard. Later, from 2011 to 2012, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Military Operational Art and Science/Studies at the USMC Command and Staff College. In 2015 to 2016, they furthered their education by completing a Master of Arts degree in Advanced Military and Operational Studies at the USMC School of Advanced Warfighting. In 2017 to 2018, Matthew Van Echo obtained a Certificate in National Security Policy Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI. Additionally, in January 2022, they earned the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
