Jerome Mayaud

Jerome Mayaud has a diverse and extensive work experience. Jerome began their career in 2013 as an Intern at Sancroft, where they worked on consultancy projects advising global companies on strategies to lift their performance in social, ethical and environmental issues. In 2014, they took on the role of Stipendiary College Lecturer at the University of Oxford, where they delivered the Physical Geography tutorial programme to undergraduate students and co-founded 3 seminar series and co-organized 3 international conferences. In 2016, they worked as a Postgraduate Fellow at the UK Parliament, where they researched and produced a briefing note on the reform of freshwater abstraction. In 2017, they became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of British Columbia, where they worked on urban data science, population health and epidemiology, and provided research mentorship to 5 PhD students and 3 Masters students. In 2018, they took on the role of Visiting Scholar in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southern California, where they used machine learning models to target poaching in African national parks and to improve the dissemination of information about HIV among homeless youth. In 2019, they joined Spare as the Director of Data Science, where they lead the Data Science team, defines metrics, develops internal tools, and sets the long-term vision for enabling data fluency across the business. Jerome also took on the role of Honorary Research Associate at the University of Oxford, where they collaborate with University of Oxford academics and co-supervises a PhD student in Environmental Science.

Jerome Mayaud completed their Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of Oxford between 2008 and 2011. Jerome then moved on to the University of Cambridge, where they obtained a Master of Philosophy in Polar Studies between 2011 and 2012. Finally, they returned to the University of Oxford to complete their PhD in Environmental Science, which they finished in 2017.
