Ross Boltyanskiy

Senior Scientist II and Director of Scientific Communications at Spheryx

Ross Boltyanskiy is an experienced scientist and professor. Ross is currently an Adjunct Professor at Yeshiva University (2022). From 2019 to present, they have been a Senior Scientist II and Director of Scientific Communications at Spheryx, Inc., where they expanded the detection range, optimized speed and accuracy of particle tracking and identification, originated and implemented novel computational features installed in company's optical devices, and developed and brought to market an automatic high-throughput robotic sample handler. From 2017 to 2019, they were a Research Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where they built an ultra sensitive quantum optics microscope designed for milliGauss magnetic detection using nitrogen defects in diamond, and designed and implemented an optimization protocol that enhances visualization and quantification of metabolism in human brain tumors using hyperpolarization. From 2016 to 2017, they were a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University. From 2015 to 2016, they were a Research Intern at Microsoft, where they designed and built an optical device, and developed the software, to pattern images with light from highly scattering media, presented the developed technology at the 2016 Microsoft TechFest, and achieved a patent with Microsoft titled "Imaging through highly diffusive media with wavefront shaping". From 2009 to 2015, they were a PhD Candidate in the Department of Physics at Yale University, where they designed and executed experiments to measure the mechanical response of cells to stretch, designed and built an instrument to stretch microscopic objects while measuring their traction forces at a controlled temperature, developed algorithms to track particles with large displacements and evaluate their strain fields, led interviews and training for new fellows, developed a year-long program and helped organize main campus-wide events, led biweekly staff meetings and one-on-one co-facilitation meetings, organized five 3-4 week long seminars and several advanced teaching workshops, co-organized training for new fellows, co-instructed Physics 181, an intensive five-week introductory physics course on E&M, optics, quantum mechanics, and relativity, and assisted in 1 laboratory course and 3 lecture courses. Additionally, from 2009 to 2008, they were a Research Assistant at University of Paris 7, a Teaching Assistant at University of Chicago Math Department, and a Research Assistant at University of Chicago, James Franck Institute, and a Research Assistant at New York University, Center for Soft Matter Research.

Ross Boltyanskiy has a long history of education. Ross obtained a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Physics from the University of Chicago in 2009. Ross then went on to Yale University, where they obtained an MS and MPhil in Physics in 2010 and a PhD in Physics in 2015. Ross also holds a Yale Certificate of College Teaching.
