Michael Wise has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of astrophysics and space research. Michael currently holds the position of General and Scientific Director at SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research since January 2019. In addition, they are a Professor of High-Energy Astrophysics at the University of Amsterdam since 2021.
Before their current roles, they served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Amsterdam from 2010 to 2020. Prior to that, they had various positions at ASTRON, including Senior Staff Astronomer, Head of the Astronomy Group, LOFAR Project Scientist, Staff Astronomer, and LOFAR Project Manager, from 2006 to 2018.

Michael Wise earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Astrophysics from Indiana University Bloomington from 1983 to 1986. Michael then pursued a Master of Science degree in Astronomy at the University of Virginia from 1986 to 1988. Finally, they obtained a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Virginia, completing their studies from 1988 to 1992.
