Rasmus Mortensen

Head Of TB Vaccine Research at Statens Serum Institut

Rasmus Mortensen has extensive experience in vaccine research and development. Rasmus started their career as a Workshop Supervisor and Auxiliary teacher at Aalborg University in 2008, where they supervised and evaluated project courses in natural sciences. In 2009, they worked as a Scientific Trainee at Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture, leading their own research project on plant viruses.

Rasmus then pursued a Specialist Student Counselor role at Aalborg University, where they provided guidance to students and organized educational events. In 2010, they became a Master Thesis Student at Aalborg University, studying the potential use of proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis for vaccine formulations.

In 2011, Rasmus joined Statens Serum Institut as a Research Assistant, where they played a key role in developing a vaccine against group A streptococci. Rasmus was responsible for initiating the antigen discovery program, optimizing an animal disease model, and evaluating vaccine efficacy.

Following this, Rasmus worked as a Ph.D. Student at Københavns Universitet from 2012 to 2015. Rasmus 'sresponsibilities included designing human studies, handling samples, conducting immunological assays, and communicating project results.

Rasmus returned to Statens Serum Institut in 2015 as a Postdoctoral Researcher, focusing on investigating the potential of COX-2 inhibitors as candidates for immunotherapy against tuberculosis. Rasmus was responsible for pre-clinical evaluation and implementing new findings into a clinical trial at Oslo University Hospital.

Currently, Rasmus Mortensen holds the position of Head of TB Vaccine Research at Statens Serum Institut, leading the research efforts in developing tuberculosis vaccines.

Rasmus Mortensen holds a Ph.D. in Infectious Disease Immunology from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, which they completed from 2012 to 2015. Prior to this, they obtained their M.Sc. in Nanobiotechnology from Aalborg University, where they studied from 2006 to 2011.
