POSITION SUMMARY:

St. Josephs’s Hospice is a faith-based organization that provides quality of life at the end of life, offering compassionate holistic care and support to individuals living with a terminal illness. Support is extended to their family members and caregivers, and to those grieving the loss of a loved one. Hospice programs and services are at no cost to those we support and are available irrespective of age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity or economic status.

Whether in the community, our wellness centre or our 10-suite residence, St. Joseph’s Hospice provides specialized programs and services with a person-centred approach. Individuals and families are intimately involved in creating their own plan of care which best addresses their unique needs. Our competent and committed Hospice staff and volunteers work together as a team with other community partners and service providers to provide full support and quality hospice palliative care.

Responsibilities:

The Kitchen Aide Summer Student is responsible for basic food preparation, assisting Nutrition Coordinator where needed and handling food in accordance with safety and sanitary regulations.  The individual will be responsible for service of food, setting meal trays and cleaning after meals services; receiving goods delivered to the kitchen; keeping accurate records; maintaining safe and sanitary work environment by knowing the proper procedures for operating and cleaning all equipment, utensils, work surfaces etc. used in food service areas.

Additionally, this individual ensures that all health and safety standards are met and continually reinforced, and all equipment is maintained in good, safe working order. This individual will work in a safe manner and will promote the safety of all co-workers, volunteers, clients, residents, families and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Cook Diploma or Food Service Worker Certificate

Current Food Handlers Certificate

Good verbal communication skills

Experience in an institutional kitchen preferred

Proof of qualifications must be provided at time of application

Currently enrolled in a Food and/or Nutrition Program would be considered an asset.
