Cloud Engineer - SRE

Engineering · Full-time · OH, United States · Remote possible

Job description

Stardog, the leading Enterprise Knowledge Graph platform, turns data into knowledge to power more effective digital transformations. Industry leaders including Bosch, NASA, and Raytheon use Stardog to create a flexible data layer that can support countless applications. One of Fast Company's prestigious Most Innovative Companies, Stardog is a fast-growing venture-backed company headquartered in Arlington, VA with a globally distributed team.

We are looking for a talented engineer to join Stardog Engineering's Cloud team.

The Stardog Platform serves as the backbone of many Fortune 500 companies, powering important data-driven initiatives in areas like smart search, helping fight infectious disease, and helping put man back on the moon. Stardog Cloud is a key component of our product vision and is increasingly the first thing people experience when using Stardog.

We are looking for a strong cloud engineer to work alongside Product and Engineering leaders to help define and build the vision for Stardog Cloud. If you are excited about infrastructure-as-code and a role that combines software engineering with DevOps using cutting edge technologies like Kubernetes then come work at Stardog and help us deliver Voicebox

As a part of the Cloud team, you will:

  • Extend the Stardog Cloud (SDC) application tier to create the foundation for new features.
  • Work on the infrastructure of SDC itself.
  • Help maintain SDC and keep it running; provide initial level of support for customer deployments in an on-call rotation.
  • Help maintain Voicebox Cloud; our GPU based compute infrastructure that powers Voicebox, also in an on-call rotation.

We are expecting to have significant experience with:

  • Kubernetes, containers, and Docker-based technologies
  • Programming languages like Python and Golang. C++ or Java is a plus
  • AWS ecosystem, particularly EKS
  • Git, Jenkins, CircleCI, or other CI/CD tools
  • Declarative infrastructure tools, particularly Terraform
  • System administration experience; you should be comfortable working in Linux and using Ansible

Things that are a plus:

  • Experience building elastic and scalable APIs and microservice architectures
  • Experience with Azure, GKE.
  • Experience operating a production SaaS product
  • Experience building or working within a physical Data Center

We are a remote-first company. You should be comfortable with, and have experience working remotely. You must have strong communication skills as much of our interactions will be over email, chat, and PR where it’s harder to get your point across. We encourage candidates residing in European time zones to apply, as some of the responsibilities involve supporting Stardog Cloud deployments in Europe. However, we welcome applicants from all time zones.

If you've had previous experience with graph-based technologies, in particular, the semantic technology stack, that's fantastic! If not, we'll welcome you to the world of graph, and the future of enterprise data management.

And while we would love to see a Computer Science, Software Engineering or related degree, we simply want good engineers who will work hard to solve interesting problems. Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design, as well as a dedication to the craft is all that's really required.

If you want to learn about the kinds of scale challenges we're building for, read about our Trillion Edge graph. And If you are curious about what it's like to work here, check out a post from our CTO and co-founder that talks about our culture, or read the engineering team's blog.

Lastly, you'll get great benefits, a yearly continuing education stipend, flexible PTO options, and the ability to work whenever and wherever you prefer.
