What Is Start Proud

Start Proud aims to connect 2SLGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the development of 2SLGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those in the community.

We facilitate the professional development of 2SLGBTQ+ students as they transition from school to career in order to build a national network within the community. About the Role:

Reporting to the Vice President of Events, as an Events Associate, you will be essential in delivering successful, impactful events for Start Proud. Your vital contribution to planning, coordinating, and executing a variety of events, and providing crucial support in project coordination across the organization will be greatly valued. This dynamic role forms the core of Start Proud's event strategy and is key to creating engaging experiences, fuelling our community outreach, and propelling our success story forward. Your organizational acumen and commitment to inclusivity will significantly enhance our event offerings, energize our growth, and contribute meaningfully to our ongoing evolution.

In this role you will:

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing workshops for students and professionals alike, ensuring they align with Start Proud's mission and objectives;
  • Collaborate closely with other teams within Start Proud, including marketing, communications, and sponsorship, to promote events, engage participants, and ensure all logistics are handled smoothly; and
  • Manage relationships with presenters, volunteers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality events.

Required Skills and Experience:

Experience:

  • Experience working in a team is important, as this role may involve collaborating closely with other teams within Start Proud, as well as external stakeholders; and
  • No direct event management experience is needed for this role, Start Proud is happy to train interested individuals.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for liaising with a range of stakeholders, including vendors, volunteers, attendees, and team members; and
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and details simultaneously while ensuring all deadlines are met is crucial in event planning.

Commitment

  • ~5-15 hours per month
  • Mandatory attendance at team meetings
