Barry F.X. Smith

Barry is a Senior Managing Director of State Street Global Advisors and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Global Institutional Group. He is also a member of the firm's Executive Management Group.

In his role as COO of the GIG, Barry is responsible for leading the strategic direction and growth of our institutional business, driving globally consistent approaches to how we sell to and service institutional clients. In addition to developing GIG?s sales and service operating platform and infrastructure, Barry leads the State Street Global Advisors Global Defined Contribution and Global Cash businesses. He also serves as President of SSGA Trust Company and SSGA Canada, Ltd.

Prior to his role as COO for GIG, Barry was Head of Americas for GIG, overseeing sales and relationship management in the US, Canada, and Latin America. Barry has more than twenty-five years of experience in financial services with a focus on institutional sales and distribution. Prior to joining State Street Global Advisors in 2010, Barry worked at BlackRock, where he served as managing director and head of the Private Label Cash Management business. Barry joined BlackRock via its acquisition of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, where he served as head of institutional cash management and in various sales and marketing management roles.

Barry earned a BA in financial economics from Saint Anselm College, where he currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.
