Richard Francis has extensive experience in the field of research, with a focus on health-related organizations. Richard is currently employed at the Stroke Association as the Head of Research, a position they have held since February 2021. Prior to this role, they served as the Head of Research Awards at the Stroke Association from July 2016 to February 2021.

Before joining the Stroke Association, Richard worked at Arthritis Research UK as the interim Head of Research Liaison and Evaluation, covering a maternity leave period from June 2015 to July 2016. Richard also held a position at Cancer Research UK as the Senior Research Funding Manager from July 2014 to May 2015.

Earlier in their career, Richard held various roles at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, including Senior Manager of Research Insight from January 2014 to June 2014, Research Manager from September 2012 to January 2014, and Senior Research Programmes Officer from April 2009 to October 2012.

Richard began their career at Imperial College London as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow from February 2006 to February 2009.

Richard Francis earned a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a focus on Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Bath, where they studied from 1997 to 2011. Following their undergraduate studies, Richard pursued further education and completed a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at Imperial College London, which they attended from 2001 to 2005.
