Senior Director Of Risk And Safety Management at Student Conservation Association

Stuart Slay has extensive work experience in risk and safety management, outdoor education, and skiing. Stuart is currently serving as the Senior Director of Risk and Safety Management at the Student Conservation Association. Previously, they held various roles at Chadwick International School, including Outdoor Education Program Director and Manager, as well as Instructor and Course Director. Stuart also worked as a Ski Guide at Ski Arpa, an Instructor and Course Director at Outward Bound California, and a Ski Patrol Supervisor and Avalanche Forecaster at Homewood Mountain Resort. Additionally, they have experience as an Instructor at Chadwick School and Northwest Outward Bound School.

Stuart Slay completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Outdoor Leadership and Instruction from Western Colorado University in 2009. Stuart then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Adventure Education from Prescott College, which they are expected to complete in 2020.

In addition to their academic achievements, Stuart has obtained various certifications and licenses. In 2019, they obtained the Education: Professional Educator Certificate from the State of Florida. In 2017, they obtained the Approaches to Learning Skills - Category III certification from the International Baccalaureate and the AIARE Level III certification from the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). Stuart also became an AIARE I & II Course Leader.

Stuart holds a CaliAvalanche Control Blasters License from the OSHA Safety Training Institute, obtained in 2016. In 2014, they earned the AvPro certification from the American Avalanche Association. Additionally, they obtained certifications such as Outdoor Emergency Care from the National Ski Patrol in 2011, Single Pitch Instructor from the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) in 2011, and Wilderness First Responder from NOLS Wilderness Medicine in 2009. Stuart also holds an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification from the State of Cool, obtained in 2006.
