James Powell has a diverse work experience in the energy industry, with a focus on midstream operations and project management.
James currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Summit Carbon Solutions, where they are leading a multi-billion dollar carbon capture and sequestration project. This involves capturing carbon dioxide from ethanol facilities and transporting it for sequestration.
Prior to their current role, James was the Chief Operating Officer at Greenfield Midstream, overseeing the operation of the Black Diamond Gathering system in the DJ basin.
James also worked at Kinder Morgan, Inc. as the Vice President of Projects & Engineering and Vice President of Operations. At Hiland Partners, they served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Earlier in their career, James held various positions at BP E&P and BP America, including Program Manager, Project General Manager, and Director of Projects. James was responsible for delivering major projects and managing a large project portfolio.
Before joining BP, James worked at Marmac, Inc. as the Vice President of Operations, where they led the startup of a Houston branch office and executed a diverse portfolio of projects.
Their experience also includes a role at Sunoco as the Project General Manager for the Mid-Valley Conversion project, where they led the conversion of the Mid-Valley Pipeline System from crude service to refined products.

James Powell attended the MIT Sloan School of Management from 2006 to 2007. During this period, they participated in the BP Projects & Engineering Academy, focusing on the field of study related to projects and engineering. Prior to that, James obtained their Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) from Oklahoma State University, where they studied engineering from 1980 to 1985.
