Kennard Lai has a diverse work experience background. Kennard began their career as a Student Catering Employee at ISU Dining in 2010. From there, they transitioned to Iowa State University, where they held the roles of Peer Mentor and Lab Technician from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, they worked as a Lab Technician at BASF before moving on to Larimer County in 2015, where they served as an Engineering Intern for a few months. In 2016, Kennard joined 5 Smooth Stones Restoration as an Intern before taking on the role of Ecosystem Restoration Engineer at SWCA Environmental Consultants later that year.

Kennard Lai completed their American Degree Program at INTI University College from 2008 to 2009. Kennard then pursued their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Environmental Science at Iowa State University between 2010 and 2012. Later, they furthered their education at Colorado State University, where they earned a Master's degree in Hydraulic Engineering from 2013 to 2016.
