Senior Biologist / Project Manager at SWCA

Sarah Willbrand has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biology and environmental consulting. Sarah has worked at multiple companies, including SWCA Environmental Consultants, Insignia Environmental, SWAIM BIOLOGICAL INC., Garcia & Associates, Caltrans, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the University of Missouri - St. Louis.

At SWCA Environmental Consultants, Sarah currently holds the position of Senior Biologist / Project Manager since August 2021.

Prior to their current role, Sarah worked at Insignia Environmental as a Senior Biologist from October 2016 to August 2021. In this role, they managed projects and led various biological tasks for large-scale utilities projects in different regions.

Before joining Insignia Environmental, Sarah worked at SWAIM BIOLOGICAL INC. as a Senior Wildlife Biologist/Project Manager from May 2013 to October 2016. Here, they managed projects and led a range of biological tasks for utilities, public works, and linear transportation projects.

Sarah also gained experience as a Senior Wildlife Biologist at Garcia & Associates from April 2010 to May 2013. In this position, they managed projects and conducted various biological tasks for utilities and transportation projects in multiple counties in the greater Bay Area.

Prior to that, they worked as an Associate Planner/Biologist at Caltrans from January 2007 to April 2010. Here, Sarah contributed to minimizing environmental impacts of linear transportation projects and conducted surveys for special-status species.

Sarah started their career as a Biological Technician at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from April 2003 to June 2004. In this role, they developed protocols for assessing amphibian populations and collected essential scientific data on amphibians and habitat characteristics.

Sarah also worked as a Laboratory Technician at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from September 2002 to December 2002, where they analyzed the effects of introduced pathogens on native Hawaiian forest passerines.

Sarah's work experience began with a role as a Field Technician at the University of Missouri - St. Louis from July 2001 to October 2001. In this position, they identified and collected data on the spatial distribution of Lepidoptera feeding on oaks in southeastern Missouri forests.

Throughout their work experience, Sarah has demonstrated expertise in managing projects, conducting surveys, and evaluating impacts on wildlife and plants. Sarah has also contributed to research projects and published reports in their field of study.

Sarah Willbrand has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology, Chemistry, and Conservation Biology from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. Sarah also holds two Master's degrees, one in Conservation Biology from Victoria University of Wellington and another in Conservation Biology from Macquarie University.
