Kumar Ghosh

Kumar Ghosh has a diverse background in civil engineering, research, teaching, and leadership roles. Kumar started their career as a Civil Engineer at Lea Associates South Asia Pvt Ltd and later worked as a Civil Engineer at Development Consultants Ltd in India. In 2000, they became a Research Assistant at the University of Toronto and then continued their research career at UC San Diego from 2002 to 2006.

In 2006, they joined the California Department of Transportation as a Bridge Engineer, where they worked until 2012. During this time, they also served as an Adjunct Faculty at California State University, Los Angeles from 2008 to 2012.

In 2017, Kumar became involved in leadership roles, serving as the Chairman of the Committee at ASCE Transportation until 2020. Kumar also co-founded MRK Associates LLC in 2019 and held the position of Co-Owner.

Currently, Kumar is working as a Senior Bridge Engineer at T.Y. Lin International, where they have been since 2012. Kumar recently transitioned to the role of Lead Bridge Engineer. Kumar is also actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers, San Diego chapter, holding the position of Vice President from 2022 to 2023.

Kumar Ghosh has a strong educational background in engineering. Kumar earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, where they were a Gold Medalist from 1995 to 1999. Kumar then pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Structural Engineering as a Connaught Scholar at the University of Toronto from 2000 to 2002. Following that, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Structural Engineering from UC San Diego, which they completed from 2002 to 2006. Kumar Ghosh has also acquired additional certifications, including being a P.E. (Civil Engineer) in California and becoming an Inspection Team Leader of InService Bridges at the FHWA National Highway Institute.
