The Spray Painter I is responsible for washing, basic rigging, paint prepping, painting, general maintenance, and more. Daily responsibilities will vary based on project needs. This role will continuously be challenged with unique products, new processes, and coating systems due to custom projects. This role will use a variety of industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Wash parts for paint prep and/or fabrication requirements
  • Prep material for paint by masking/plugging holes, applying mechanical etching, etc.
  • Place or rig material on table or hanging rig as required for painting application
  • Prioritize work in paint queuing line as applicable
  • Force dry materials with compressed air and/or fans
  • Learn new skills, concepts, and/or processes to meet client needs
  • Manage delivery of material to designated area(s)
  • Ensure TAIT’s 5 standards of care are coordinated into all daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost
  • Perform tasks satisfactorily with minimal supervision
  • Manage priorities as they change throughout a shift
  • Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor
  • Work efficiently and effectively to ensure adherence to schedules, production goals, and budget
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including tools and equipment
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as sanitation regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including those outside department/area as necessary

Requirements: Education, Experience & Skills

  • High school diploma, GED, or industrial paint certification/degree
  • 1-2 years of automotive and/or industrial coatings application experience a plus
  • Basic knowledge of paint equipment and paint booth operation
  • Basic knowledge of hoist operation a plus
  • Familiarity of various metal abrasive treatments (E.g., chemical etching, degreasers)
  • Ability to paint using water-based paint
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility with work schedule, including some holidays and alternate shifts as required; ability to work OT (more than 40 hours) in any given week as needed

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, stoop, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pull or push up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reach overhead
  • Must be able to work in small, sometimes awkward positions

Work conditions of the role are:

  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and loud noises
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions
  • Will occasionally work in a wet environment
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the department
