Joana Khatib has a diverse work experience in research, teaching, and community development. In 2022, they began working as a Research Associate at Tectonic Therapeutic, Inc. In 2021, they were a Research Associate II at Sanofi Genzyme, where they investigated the potency and toxicity of selective estrogen degrader molecules (SERD) and optimized immunoprecipitation assay to assess lysosomal trapping. Joana also acquired technical knowledge in running high throughput assays using BRAVO, Sally Sue capillary western blot, MSD, and qPCR. In 2020, they were a Teacher Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, where they integrated the use of jmol to help students understand molecules’ structure, polarity, and interactions. Joana also reinforced material through leading weekly interactive recitations or SI sessions. In the same year, they were an Undergraduate Student Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, where they examined the crosstalk between the CRC tumor cells and surrounding fibroblasts by looking into pro inflammatory markers and TGF-B signaling pathway. Joana also compared the morphologies of CRC tissue and colon tissue using different immunostaining markers, and leveraged databases and virtual labs for computational biology analysis. In 2019, they were a Community Development Advisor (CDA) at Qatar Foundation, where they facilitated and developed social, cultural and academic life of the student residents living in the Education City, Qatar housing. Joana also managed administrative tasks and was responsible for the immediate safety of all residents during emergency situations. In 2018, they were a Synthetic Biology Researcher and Team Co-leader at the iGEM Competition, and a Course Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
