Gerry Ryan has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Currently, they are working as a Senior Research Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute. Prior to this, they held the role of Statistical Modeller at the same institution. In 2019, they served as a Board Member for the Society for Conservation Biology, Asia Section. Additionally, Gerry has worked as a Research Consultant for an Independent Consultancy since 2010. Gerry was also a Member of the IUCN-SSC Cetacean Specialist Group since 2013. At The University of Melbourne, Gerry served as Academic Teaching staff, Research Fellow, and Research Assistant from 2012 to 2021. Gerry has also been involved with WWF, where they served as an Advisor, Research Technical Advisor, and Research Consultant. During their time at WWF, they were involved in the River Dolphin Programme. Gerry has also worked as a State of the Parks Officer for Parks Victoria in 2017. Gerry started their career as a Capacity Building Officer at Vietnam Forestry University in 2007 and as a Zoo Encounters Presenter at Zoos Victoria in 2006. Gerry also worked as a Biology Demonstrator at The University of Melbourne in 2006.
Gerry Ryan pursued their education at the University of Melbourne, where they completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Zoology/Marine Biology from 2003 to 2007. Gerry furthered their studies at the same university and obtained a Master of Environment degree from 2009 to 2011. Finally, Gerry Ryan went on to complete their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Conservation Biology from 2012 to 2021, still at the University of Melbourne.
