Hilary Rummel has had a diverse work experience, starting in 2008 as a Graduate Research Assistant at Iowa State University. In this role, they conducted research on science, engineering, and mathematics education, assisted with grant writing and marketing, and helped develop and maintain the center's website.

In 2010, Hilary joined AECOM as a Senior Archaeologist, where they worked until 2018.

In 2018, they joined Tepa Companies as a Cultural Resource Specialist before being promoted to Deputy Project Manager in 2022 and then becoming an Environmental Project Manager in 2023.

Hilary Rummel has a strong educational background. Hilary attained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from Concordia University, Nebraska in the years 2003 to 2007. Following this, they pursued their academic interests at Iowa State University, where they earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Anthropology, specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), from 2007 to 2010. During their time at Iowa State University, they also obtained a Graduate Certificate in GIS. Additionally, in October 2010, Hilary obtained the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification.
