Position Summary:

Tessera is seeking a Scientist II to join the Analytical team to develop and implement RNA molecule characterization assays. We are searching for experienced, enthusiastic, innovative, and highly motivated individuals who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Advance existing and establish new methods using mass spectrometry, HPLC and electrophoretic methods to characterize RNA molecules (oligos and/or mRNA).
  • Represent Analytical Development team in the cross-functional meetings, present results and provide scientific input as needed.
  • Participate in in-depth investigations, including orthogonal method evaluation, understanding protein and peptide stability, and characterizing impurities in a CMC setting.
  • Explore new technology and software to strengthen and streamline protein characterization workflows.
  • Maintain external awareness of advances in the field through keeping updated on relevant publications, attending conferences and workshops.
  • Effectively collaborate within the analytical team and with other functional teams.
  • Use scientific and technical expertise for instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor junior scientists as needed.
  • Perform assays, analyze, interpret, and report results in appropriate format (ELN, analytical report, and presentation).
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • BS in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or relevant discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 8+ years relevant industry experience, or PhD with 2+ years industry experience.
  • Extensive experience with protein and peptide analysis, preferably in biopharmaceutically relevant systems.
  • Experience with the application of a diverse set of analytical assays, with strong background in LC-MS (required) and HPLC.
  • Experience with RNA or Oligonucleotide chemistry and biophysical techniques is required.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting written material, in various forms including but not limited to tables and spreadsheets, as well as quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports and memos.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to complete assignment with impeccable attention to detail and high degree of accuracy with fast turnaround time to meet submitter’s deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level of personal and spatial organization.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Learning and betterment mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
