Eli Melendrez serves as a Government Relations Associate at Texas AFT, where responsibilities include managing statewide legislative advocacy on retirement and higher education issues, compiling and analyzing data for research projects, coordinating the statewide retiree group, and contributing to a weekly external newsletter. Previously, Eli held roles as a Bridges Fellow, where tasks involved monitoring legislative sessions and summarizing education-related bills, and as a Community Organizer with Texas Campaign for the Environment, focusing on environmental justice in low-income neighborhoods. Additional experience includes a Legislative Intern position with the Texas Senate and a Senior Student Fellow Manager role with Beto for Texas, overseeing student engagement activities. Eli holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
