Marissa Balonon-Rosen

Staff Attorney, Criminal Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders

Marissa Balonon-Rosen (she/her/hers) received her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law where she was an Equal Justice Scholar; participated in the Criminal Defense Clinic, the Civil Rights Clinic, and the Housing Clinic; served on the board of the Justice Center; and was an Associate Editor of the Texas Journal on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights. During her law school summers, she interned at the Capital Appeals Project in New Orleans and was a certified student attorney at the Alaska Public Defender in Ketchikan. Prior to joining the Bronx Defenders, Marissa was a criminal defense attorney at the New Hampshire Public Defender, where she represented adults and children charged with felonies, misdemeanors, and parole violations. Prior to law school, she taught music to teens and young adults experiencing homelessness in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco and coordinated senior citizen choirs in 10 different neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. Marissa holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory-Classical Piano from the Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Youth Studies from the University of Rochester, where she graduated cum laude.
