Tom de Groen has a diverse work experience in various design and leadership roles. Tom started their career at Formway as an Industrial Designer and Graphic Designer. Tom then worked as a Freelance Designer, taking on clients and contracting to agencies and businesses. Later, they joined the Bank of New Zealand as a Senior Digital Designer. Tom then worked at Octave as a Creative Director. Tom was also the Head of Experience at Excellent and currently holds the position of Head of Customer Experience at The Co-operative Bank.

Tom de Groen earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from Massey University from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, they obtained University Entrance from Wellington College of Education from 1994 to 1998. It is unknown when they attended Wellesley College, as no dates are provided.
