Alastair Philp

Health Foundation Leadership Fellow at The Health Foundation

Alastair Philp has extensive work experience in the healthcare and public health sectors. Starting in 2001, they held various roles at NHS National Services Scotland, including as an Information Consultant and Improvement Advisor. Alastair also worked at Healthcare Improvement Scotland as a Measurement for Improvement Advisor. In 2014, they joined The Scottish Government as an Improvement Advisor for the Raising Attainment for All Programme. Alastair later became a Programme Mobilisation Manager for the Scottish Analytical Infrastructure Collaborative. Philp also worked at the Health Foundation as a Leadership Fellow. Currently, they are employed by Public Health Scotland as an Information Consultant and Programme Lead for the Maternity & Neonatal Data Hub. Additionally, Philp has been involved in community engagement as a Secretary and Community Councillor for Marchmont & Sciennes Community Council. Alastair is an accomplished professional in the field of healthcare improvement and data analysis.

Alastair Philp's education history is as follows:

Alastair Philp obtained a BA in Natural Sciences with a focus on Cell and Molecular Biology from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1988. Alastair then pursued a PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Dundee, which they completed in 1994.

In 1999, they attended UC San Diego for a certificate class in Financial Accounting for Non-accountants.

In 2003, Alastair obtained a certificate in Law and Medical Ethics from The University of Edinburgh.

In 2006, they completed a Leadership Programme from Henley Business School.

In 2010, they enrolled in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and obtained a certificate in Improvement Advisor in 2011.

Additionally, Alastair Philp attended The University of Edinburgh in 2012 and obtained a certificate in Concepts of Epidemiology.

Alastair'sprimary education took place at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh from 1975 to 1988, but no degree or field of study is specified for this period.

Furthermore, Alastair Philp has obtained several additional certifications. In 2016, they completed the Management of Portfolios: Foundation & Practitioner course from AXELOS Global Best Practice. In 2017, they obtained the Managing Successful Programmes: Foundation & Practitioner certification from the same institution. Most recently, in 2023, they obtained the ICAgile Certified Professional - Business Agility Foundations certification from ICAgile.
