Russell D Hamer

Russell D Hamer, Ph.D., is an experienced scientist and educator in the field of sensory neuroscience. Currently serving as an Affiliate Scientist at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute since March 2023, Hamer also holds positions as an Adjunct Professor and Affiliate Research Professor at Florida Atlantic University, focusing on human visual system contrast processing in collaboration with researchers in Brazil. Hamer has a rich history in dance instruction and choreography, specifically in Salsa and Rueda de Casino, taught globally for over 25 years. Previous roles include significant research at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute and the Instituto de Psicologia, Universidade de Sao Paulo, where Hamer specialized in visual development and contrast sensitivity. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Sensory Neuroscience from Syracuse University and a BS in Biology from The City College of New York.
