David L. Lakey

Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at The University of Texas System

David L. Lakey is the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at The University of Texas System. David previously served as the Senior Vice President for Population Health at University of Texas Health Science Center Tyler from February 2015 to September 2017. Prior to that, they were the Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services from January 2007 to January 2015, and before that they were the President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials from October 2011 to October 2012. David has also been an Associate Professor at University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler from August 1998 to December 2006.

David L. Lakey began their educational career by earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. David then went on to earn their Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine. After completing their Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, they completed a Pediatric and Adult Infectious Disease Fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
