ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is seeking an Underground Maintenance Planner for the Denver, Colorado area. The Underground Maintenance Planner will perform planning and support functions necessary to maintain underground mining equipment. They will schedule and plan short to medium term maintenance for all mobile plant and equipment on site to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specification to ensure the equipment fleet achieves maximum availability in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning & Scheduling
    • Produce, review and maintain rolling monthly, quarterly and annual plans as well as equipment specifications, tyres and undercarriage tracking files
    • Maintain currency and accuracy of equipment maintenance history, work orders, job records database and technical information on processes, plant and equipment
    • Identify potential work using an effective condition monitoring program and financial package based work programs and provide guidance and support to the project manager and supervisor
  • Finance
    • Ensure that work planned is completed within allowed budget and resources by cost effective use of subcontractors to maintain and service mobile plant and ancillary equipment
    • Assist with the procurement and freight of parts and services and ensure full reliability of parts and equipment is retained while stored, only using approved suppliers and hire equipment
    • Maintain accurate and effective costing reporting as well as support documentation and ensure all completed work orders are closed out
    • Identify project-based opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Maintenance & Reliability
    • Utilize predictive maintenance processes to raise re-work requests and organise any additional maintenance requirements
    • Ensure all materials, parts, personnel, tools, permits and equipment is available for execution when required by the plan
    • Review and audit mechanical repairs and services to ensure compliance with site maintenance schemes
    • Review and report on planning and scheduling, equipment reliability and maintenance department performance
    • Manage tire life cycle
  • Safety, Environment & Community
    • Assist in the implementation and compliance of HSE plans to ensure safe and sustainable mobile plant and ancillary equipment
    • Provide expert advice in all incident investigations
  • Relationship Management
    • Liaise with all internal stakeholders to enhance coordination between the maintenance department, mine leadership, and client groups and minimize interruptions to operations by maintaining strong working relationships with relevant personnel
    • Communicate detailed maintenance plans for scheduled maintenance to maintenance department, mine leadership, and client groups on a weekly basis
    • Promote prosperous healthy client relationships to network and identify new business opportunities

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in mobile equipment maintenance 
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in underground equipment planning, mining maintenance activities  
  • Familiar with Office 365, including strong Excel skills and MS Project skills
  • Experience with SAP or JD Edwards ERP software
  • Use of Cat SIS and other OEM parts manuals
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required
  • Must be fluent in the English language

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time
  • Able to work in extreme winter and summer conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees and 110 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)
  • Quick response/reaction times
  • Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity

EDUCATION 

  • Trade or tertiary qualification in mechanical or electrical
  • Training and/or experience in maintenance management and/or maintenance planning processes
  • Vocational training in mechanics, engineering, or related field

  • Pay Range: $85,500- $99,800 USD (DOE)
