Mirko Cortese

Mirko Cortese is a seasoned researcher in cellular and molecular biotechnology with extensive experience in the field of human cytomegalovirus. Currently serving as a Group Leader at Tigem since July 2021, Mirko previously held the position of Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Heidelberg from June 2013 to November 2021. Additionally, Mirko completed a Ph.D. at Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics between February 2009 and April 2013, focusing on the characterization of human cytomegalovirus coded Fc binding proteins. An accomplished presenter and coordinator, Mirko has contributed significantly to the development of vaccines and is a co-inventor on a pending patent, showcasing a strong background in experimental planning, data analysis, and collaboration within global research teams. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, complemented by Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Industrial and Molecular Biotechnology from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II.
