Job description

Our employee-owned and integrated team of multi-disciplined design and engineering professionals has an exciting opportunity available for an architect with a demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and a passion for designing and managing government and civic facilities to join our team.   As the Government Market Manager, you will be responsible for advancing our design services and capabilities within the government and civic markets around the Minneapolis-St Paul metro area, greater Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other prospective markets. You will be responsible for assessing strategic business objectives and outlining annual client and market development plans that continuously focus on cultivating and deepening relations with key stakeholders, increasing awareness of TKDA’s multi-discipline services, enhancing our team’s design capabilities, and ensuring our project deliverables align with the needs and operations of the respective markets. Additionally, in collaboration with other market managers and multi-discipline technical group managers, you will be responsible for identifying strategic clients, tracking prospective opportunities, evaluating pursuit requirements against team capabilities, leading or co-leading proposal development efforts, preparing and facilitating project interviews and capabilities presentations, and cross-selling engineering and design services across markets.   As a Market Manager, you will also oversee project management activities of all sector projects and be responsible for collaborating with project managers and technical group managers to define project scope and scheduling requirements, negotiate contracts, assemble project teams, establish and adhere to design standards, review design plans for quality and accuracy, and monitor expenditures and budget parameters. On occasion, you may assume the role of project manager for significant projects or projects of strategic importance.   For this opportunity we are seeking a qualified professional who resides within a regular commuting distance of our office location and who has the ability to travel regionally as required or needed based on assigned responsibilities. TKDA provides employees with flexible hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote) work arrangements. 

Required Qualifications

  • NAAB accredited degree in architecture or landscape architecture; Professional registration in the State of Minnesota.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive design experience with a strong portfolio including experience within the government (city and county) and civic markets.
  • Minimum of five years of multi-disciplined project management experience with a successful track record and reputation of effectively managing stakeholder expectations, project scope, fee estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prior business development experience demonstrated by an ability to cultivate, strengthen, and/or maintain stakeholder relations and an ability to identify and secure new project opportunities.
  • Thorough understanding of the government and civic market and an ability to foresee needs and expectations related to operations, regulatory requirements, and financial budgets / funding sources; ability to identify trends, suggest holistic design solutions, and guide conceptual ideas into functional and buildable solutions.
  • Previous experience coaching and mentoring emerging design professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective written, verbal, and visual communication and presentation skills when developing proposals, preparing technical reports and documentation, conducting project interviews and capabilities presentations, leading project team meetings, engaging in market development and business planning discussions, and representing TKDA at professional events and conferences.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 15% to conduct on-site consultations, participate in project meetings, facilitate business development activities, and represent TKDA at regional and national conferences.

Advantageous Qualifications

  • NCARB certification or registration in additional states.
  • Previous experience contributing to or outlining client and market development plans as well as annual and multi-year strategic business plans to meet project, market, division, and corporate revenue and profit goals.
  • Portfolio highlighting extensive transit or water treatment facility design experience.
  • Portfolio consisting of workplace/office, airport, or military project experience.
  • LEED ® Accreditation and working knowledge of State of Minnesota B3 Guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of design applications including Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of graphics applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and Sketch-up.
  • Current affiliation or active membership with professional associations (AIA, CSI, ICC, etc.).
  • CID or NCIDQ certification.
