Fred Kingston

Director, Policy at Treehouse

Fred Kingston is the current Director of Systems Change & Youth Development at Treehouse. Fred has dedicated their career to advocating for youth, specifically those in the foster care system and those who are homeless.

Kingston began their career as Director of Youth Programs at The Mockingbird Society in 2011. In this role, they oversaw the Mockingbird Youth Network (MYN) and the Youth Advocates Ending Homelessness (YAEH) program. The MYN is a statewide coalition of youth and young adults 13-24 impacted by the foster care system. The YAEH program focuses on preventing and ending youth homelessness. Under Kingston's leadership, both programs advocated at the City, County, State, and Federal levels with a focus on positive reform.

In 2017, Kingston left The Mockingbird Society to become Program Manager at the College Success Foundation. In this role, they managed Foster Care Initiatives. Fred helped develop and monitor a $900,000 annual program budget and supervised a staff of 15 employees located across Washington state. Fred also directed the execution of two major annual events: The Foster Youth and Alumni Leadership Summit and Youth Advocacy Day in Olympia.

In October 2019, Kingston became Director of shelter, drop in, and strategic partnerships at New Horizons Ministries. In this role, they continued their work advocating for youth in need. Fred oversaw the development and implementation of programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual served. Fred also worked to build relationships with community partners to create opportunities for those served by New Horizons Ministries.

Kingston is currently the Director of Systems Change & Youth Development at Treehouse. In this role, they lead Treehouse's efforts to create systemic change that leads to better outcomes for youth in foster care. Fred also oversees Treehouse's programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual served.

Fred Kingston completed a Master's of Social Work at the University of Washington with a focus on Individual and Community Practice. Prior to that, they completed a B.A. at The Johns Hopkins University in Writing Seminars.

Fred Kingston reports to Lisa Chin, CEO. They are on a team with Alyssa Chevassus - Director, People Practices, Victoria Kutasz - Program Director, Resources & Operations, and Margaret Su - Director, Marketing & Communications.
