Deirdre Costello

Principal Scientist, Structural Biology at Treeline Biosciences

Deirdre Costello has a diverse work experience in the field of biosciences. Deirdre is currently working as a Principal Scientist in Structural Biology at Treeline Biosciences since 2022. Before that, they worked at Eli Lilly and Company from 2016 to 2022, initially as a Research Scientist and later as a Senior Research Scientist. Prior to joining Eli Lilly, Deirdre was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Harvard Medical School from 2014 to 2016. Deirdre also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Cornell University from 2008 to 2014, where they were also pursuing their PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. In addition to their academic and industry roles, Deirdre has also worked as an Engineering Instructor at the Center for Talented Youth Ireland in 2008. Early in their career, they gained experience as a Process Engineering Intern at Eli Lilly and Company in 2007. Deirdre's research contributions include developing assays to study the fusion kinetics of influenza, visualizing coronavirus entry, and investigating fusion proteins of highly pathogenic influenza subtypes. Deirdre has published peer-reviewed papers, made external presentations, and demonstrated expertise in viral replication mechanisms and drug delivery techniques.

Deirdre Costello began their education at University College Dublin from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering. Deirdre then moved on to Cornell University, where they completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from 2008 to 2010. Deirdre continued their education at Cornell University and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from 2008 to 2013.
