Andy Barrett

Andy Barrett has an extensive background in all aspects of the international energy business, with broad senior careers in Shell and BG and more recent experience as an Industry Advisor, and with PE-backed companies. As a founding Executive Vice President with the BG Group he was formative in creating the international business which was ultimately demerged from the UK utility. He led BG’s major entry into Brazil together with several successful international oil, gas and power projects and major acquisitions. He currently acts as Senior Advisor Global Energy for IHS Markit, and has led studies for multiple governments, the European Commission, the World Bank and other agencies around energy policy and strategy, many with a growing focus on the energy transition and decarbonisation. He has held Chairman and Board non-executive positions with companies involved in renewables, oil and gas services, LNG, and gas and power utilities, in UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, and Poland, and is currently the Chairman of Vertex Bioenergy in Spain following the acquisition by Trilantic Europe and reappointment by DWS following Trilantic Europe’s divestment. Dr. Barrett has a PhD. in Natural Sciences from Oxford University, is qualified with the Institute of Chemical Engineers, is an alumnus of Wharton Business School and has been appointed an Adjunct Professor with the Haskayne Business School (University of Calgary) contributing to their global energy executive MBA program.
