David Schroeder

Director, Corporate & Regulatory Affairs at Triton Algae Innovations

At Triton, Dave navigates the domestic and international regulatory processes required to bring a new food to market, and is actively engaged in Triton’s business development, outreach and communications efforts, along with day-to-day company operations. He led Triton’s successful effort to achieve FDA “No Questions” GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status for Triton’s Chlamydomonas algae, for its intended use as a protein replacement in foods.

Prior to joining Triton, Dave was Director of Government Research Relations at UC San Diego, where he led the development and execution of government relations strategies and related projects on behalf of UCSD's federal and state research priorities. In this capacity, he built support for UCSD within Congress and the executive branch, resulting in millions in federal funding for the UCSD research enterprise. During this time, he also helped to secure funding for and establish the world-renowned California Center for Algae Biotechnology (Cal-CAB).

Dave came to UCSD from Washington DC, where he served for 10 years on Capitol Hill as legislative director for two members of the U.S. House of Representatives. In this role, he was responsible for advising on strategy, policy, and floor votes, directing junior staff, and advancing the Member’s legislative priorities. Examples include helping to craft and implement strategies and build bipartisan coalitions to enact into law amendments to major environmental statutes such as the Clean Air Act, the Wilderness Act, and the Clean Water Act.
