Matthew Lawless

SVP & Chief Privacy Counsel at Truist

Matthew Lawless, CIPP-US, CIPP-E, CIPM, FIP, serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Privacy Counsel at Truist since June 2022. In addition to this role, Matthew has been an adjunct professor at Miami University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law since January 2019 and January 2017, respectively, focusing on information privacy law. Previously, Matthew held the position of Director and Assistant General Counsel for Global Privacy, Cybersecurity, and IT Law at Procter & Gamble from December 2015 to June 2022. Matthew's legal experience includes roles at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP as an associate attorney, law clerk positions at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Indiana Attorney General's Office. Matthew earned a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, a Master of Arts in Technical and Scientific Communication from Texas Tech University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication from Michigan State University.
