Jaya Kawale

Jaya Kawale has extensive work experience in the field of AI/ML. Jaya is currently the Vice President of Engineering (AI/ML) at Tubi. In their previous role as the Director of Machine Learning at Tubi, Jaya was responsible for various machine learning needs across the product, including homepage recommendations, content understanding and acquisition, and machine learning for ads. Jaya grew the team and created six sub-teams working on different areas such as core ranking and retrieval, ranking applications, content understanding, ML for ad tech, computer vision, and experimental research.

Prior to joining Tubi, Jaya worked at Netflix as a Tech Lead ML Researcher. In this role, they led the execution and implementation of different algorithms, including causal inference and deep learning, for ML recommendations on the Billboard. Jaya also initiated the first-ever real-time contextual bandits pipeline at Netflix and gave invited talks about their work at various events.

Before Netflix, Jaya worked at Adobe as a Senior Research Scientist. Jaya worked on challenging problems related to Contextual Bandits, Matrix Factorization, Causal Inference, Propensity score models, and more. Jaya mentored junior scientists and interns during their time at Adobe and published several papers in top-tier conferences.

Jaya began their career as a Research Engineer at Yahoo! Research, where they worked from 2005 to 2008.

Jaya Kawale obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. Jaya studied from 2008 to 2013 in pursuit of their degree.
