Come join the team as a Field Service Technician. Under limited supervision, perform basic to advanced fiber optic troubleshooting, customer disconnects, and service changes for residential and business customers for high-speed internet services. Work closely with the internal Central Office to help maintain and troubleshoot the fiber optic network.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Understand where the issue lies and be able to troubleshoot remotely or onsite
Perform basic networking troubleshooting steps (DHCP, NAT, LAN/WAN Configurations, Wi-Fi)
Provide customer education when possible
Properly terminate copper & fiber cable (Cat5e, Cat6, single-mode)
Single Core fusion splice when a customers fiber drop is damaged
Read construction prints to understand the route of fiber and help with troubleshooting
Analyze fiber traces utilizing an OTDR
Use an Optical PON power meter to determine accurate light levels
Drive in a safe and professional manner to customer homes and around the city to locate our infrastructure
Be on a rotating on call schedule to respond to emergency damages to our network and infrastructure, includes after hours and weekends
Basic understanding of electrical circuits
Take and record accurate information and supporting documents when performing troubleshooting tickets
Take and record accurate information, pictures, statements, and geolocations when a damage happens to our infrastructure
Diligently maintain our fiber distribution huts and take the time restore fiber jumpers to a clean and professional appearance
Job Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License
Proficient in MS Office
Able to identify and distinguish colors
Physical Requirements:
Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination
Ability to use power tools
Climbing of stairs and ladders
Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs (including a ladder)
