Role Overview
Join Hillel BC as an Engagement Associate and make a lasting impact on Jewish student life! You will build meaningful one-on-one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs across campus, and inspire students to deepen their commitment to Jewish life. Hillel BC is a vibrant community providing Jewish students at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Langara College, and more with a safe and welcoming space.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and skilled multitasker who can collaborate with students and colleagues to advance Hillel’s mission, values, and goals. This position reports to the Director of Student Life.
What You’ll Do
- Build Relationships: Develop one-on-one connections with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work, and study. Use creative methods to engage them in Jewish life and empower newly engaged students to create meaningful experiences with their peers.
- Support Identity Exploration: Guide students in exploring their Jewish identities and foster a warm, welcoming Jewish campus community.
- Foster Diversity: Connect with students from diverse backgrounds through meaningful conversations and opportunities to participate in Jewish life on campus.
- Data Management: Enter data using Hillel’s participant tracking database (HEART).

A Typical Day May Include
- Grabbing coffee with a new student who attended High Holidays or joined last semester.
- Connecting with Jewish day schools or youth programs in the community to introduce high school students to Hillel.
- Tabling on campus with student leaders to advertise upcoming programs, Jewish Learning Fellowships, and holidays.
- Starting the morning with a programming meeting with team members to plan upcoming events, followed by back-to-back one-on-one meetings with students.
- Participating in a staff lunch at the Hot Lunch program.
- Assisting with program setup or cleanup and preparing for Learning Fellowships towards the end of the day.
- Handling other fun and engaging duties as assigned
What You’ll Receive
- Competitive Salary: $46,000 CAD – $52,000 CAD
