Position Summary:

Ultragenyx is looking for a Payroll Manager, reporting to the Director of Global Payroll, to join our payroll team. You will manage the administration of the daily international payroll operations and accuracy of the payroll system data to process our biweekly payrolls for 30+ US states and semi-monthly/monthly international payrolls, assisting with processing as needed. In this role, you will partner closely with HR and third-party payroll processors to ensure timely and accurate processes in compliance with local regulations and SOX 404. You will also play an integral part of the company’s global expansion, helping establish payroll processes in new jurisdictions. Work Model: 

Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong oversight of U.S. multi-state and international payroll functions
  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing of U.S. Payroll
  • Responsible for compiling/overseeing, reviewing, and timely submission of payroll to our third-party payroll partner
  • Recruit, manage, coach, and develop payroll team members and support the continuous professional development and growth of payroll team
  • Work closely with business leaders to enhance payroll operational standards in compliance with SOX standards
  • Manage vendor relationships, payroll delivery, payroll controls, and payroll tax issues
  • Partner cross functionally with internal customers; People Operations, Benefits, Global Mobility, Finance, Legal, Equity, etc.
  • Develop U.S. payroll goals, pay practices and processes to ensure compliance, efficiency, and standardization across legal entities globally
  • Work with service providers and People Operations team to ensure integrity of data and system setup. Identify process weaknesses and propose enhancements
  • Work closely with the Global team and service provider to manage employee globalization initiatives and ensure proper treatment of reportable benefits for tax equalized employees; work closely with Equity team to manage employee and employer income and tax reporting related to stock transactions
  • Participate in month and quarter-end close activities, including, but not limited to, preparation or review of payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations and auditor-required items
  • Ensure accurate calculations of vacation and other payroll-related accruals
  • Ensure payroll-related regulatory filings are completed timely and accurately; support and coordinate audits such as worker compensation, 401K and annual financial audit, as necessary.
  • Other projects and responsibilities, as needed

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of management experience in a team of 3+
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or similar fields
  • Experience with multi-state payroll, payroll taxes, general ledger, stock payroll and compliance
  • Experience with payroll software, PEO or HRIS
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
  • Global payroll experience preferred
  • UKG (formerly UltiPro) experience is a plus
  • Experience in creating and presenting dashboards and using analytics as support is a plus #LI-CS1 #LI-Hybrid
