Position Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate II to join the upstream process development group within Ultragenyx Gene Therapy. In this role, you will execute a variety of process development studies to advance the gene therapy development for ultra-rare diseases. This position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role that will be responsible for developing manufacturing process for gene therapy, with a focus on processes at various scales. The successful applicant will work closely with senior scientists in the group and should be comfortable around modern cell culture lab equipment/methodology including small scale cell culture, high-throughput bioreactor systems, and bench scale reactors. We are looking for someone who is flexible, can work well independently, and can respond quickly, energetically, and enthusiastically to change and challenge.

Work Model:

Core Lab & Ops: This role typically requires that the majority of the work be conducted on-site and thus will be subject to certain on-site safety protocols during the pandemic.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and carries out experiments in the lab using skills in upstream process development.
  • Compiles data, as directed, to facilitate a clear interpretation of results.
  • Commitment to quality lab work and independently solves routine problems in technical operations.
  • Follow good documentation practice for laboratory work.
  • Contribute to technical reports by providing data and methods.
  • Assist and train junior colleagues with technical expertise.

Requirements:

  • Experience in operating mammalian cell culture and developing gene therapy process.
  • Proficient skills in technical writing and communication.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work in the lab as a team member.
  • Preferred background in molecular biology, cell culture, chemical engineering, or biochemistry.
  • Typically requires a university degree and a minimum of an MS with 0-2 years of related experience or BS with 2-4 years of related experience.
