Laura De Becker is an accomplished art historian specializing in African art, currently serving as Chief Curator and Helmut and Candis Stern Curator of African Art at the University of Michigan since September 2015. Prior to this role, Laura held the position of Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wits Art Museum, University of the Witwatersrand from January 2013 to August 2015. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in African Art History and a Master's degree in Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, both from the University of East Anglia, as well as a Licentiate degree in African Art History and a Kandidatuur in Art History from Ghent University.
